iKnowMed Generation 2 Electronic Health Information Export (EHI) Frequently Asked Questions Copied

To meet the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) 2015 Edition Cures Update Certification Criteria for the §170.315(b)(10) Electronic Health Information export, iKnowMed Generation 2 will support an export of electronic health information. This functionality will help you respond to patients’ requests for their health record.

When will iKnowMed release the Electronic Health Information Export capability?

The EHI export functionality is slated to be released December 2023. We’ll share an update when this functionality will be available.

When can my practice begin setting permissions for the functionality?

Practices can set permissions to access the Electronic Health Information Export now. For more details, view the November 2023 release notes.

How will permissioned users request EHI Exports for a single patient in iKnowMed?

Accessed from EHI Export in the Admin menu, users will be able to request the EHI export for a single patient using a search bar to find a specific patient name or MRN. The export will be generated as of the date requested. In the coming weeks, Ontada will be sharing resources to highlight this functionality including release notes, training materials and other documentation.

How long will the single patient export request take?

Requests will be fulfilled within 24 hours. However, most requests are expected to take an hour to be completed.

When exported, what type of file can my practice expect to see?

The export will be in the form of a zip file, which contains files in a machine-readable format in accordance with §170.315(b)(10) Electronic Health Information export of the ONC 2015 Edition Cures Update Certification Criteria.

The zip file contains the electronic health information available in a patient’s iKnowMed record in a computable, Pipe Delimited file format. A pipe delimited file is a type of file that stores data in a table format, where the data values are separated by a special character called a pipe (|).

What is included in the EHI Export for a patient?

The content included in the export is based on the following factors:

  • The iKnowMed features in use by your practice that generates the file.
  • Configuration decisions made by your practice.
  • Your practice’s clinical utilization of iKnowMed.
  • The documentation in place at your practice.

Please visit the EHI page on the Ontada website to view details of the export content.

How will permissioned users request EHI Exports for the patient population in iKnowMed?

Accessed from EHI Export in the Admin menu, users will be able to request the patient population export. The export contains the EHI available in iKnowMed Generation 2 charts for the practice patient population as of the date generated.

What customization is provided for the patient population export?

Exports provided in accordance with the §170.315(b)(10) Electronic Health Information export regulation cannot be customized. Your Ontada Technology Account Manager can discuss other data extract options that allow customization.

When can I expect to receive the patient population export following the request?

Exports may take up to one week to be available, but most requests are expected to be completed within two (2) business days.
