Real-Time Prescription Benefit Information Now Available During Prescribing Copied

For practices and users enabled for electronic prescribing, iKnowMed now offers Real-Time Prescription Benefit (RTPB) information directly within the prescribing workflow.
RTPB provides patient-specific medication pricing, coverage, and authorization information to help providers evaluate prescription options at the point of care. Depending on the available benefit information, providers may be able to:
- View patient-specific cost and coverage information.
- Review up to five covered medication alternatives.
- Identify prior authorization requirements.
- Compare pharmacy and supply options, such as 30-day versus 90-day supplies or retail versus mail-order.
- View coverage information for medications, vaccines, and medical supplies.
To access RTPB, select View RTPB Coverage Details from the Order Editor in iKnowMed desktop or the iKnowMed mobile app. The link becomes available once all required prescription fields, such as dispense quantity and unit, are completed.
From the RTPB window, providers can review available benefit and coverage information for the selected medication and alternatives. They can also change the Health Plan or Pharmacy to compare available options for the patient.
Why this matters
Medication cost, coverage, and prior authorization requirements can create delays for patients and additional follow-up for practices. RTPB brings this information into the prescribing workflow, helping providers identify potential coverage barriers and alternative options before the prescription is submitted. This added visibility can support more informed prescribing decisions, help reduce prescription abandonment and fulfillment delays, and minimize administrative follow-up related to medication coverage.
