Third-Party Application Management for Non-Ontada Health Patient Portal Patients Copied
The API Portal, which patients currently use to manage third-party application access to their health information, is being retired. To make sure patients whose practice does not use the Ontada Health patient portal can continue managing this access after retirement, we are offering a limited experience dedicated solely to third-party application management.
Because this experience is only for third-party application access, patients should continue using their practice’s existing patient portal to manage their health records, messaging, appointments, and other needs.
What’s changing
Patients and caregivers enrolled in the Ontada Health patient portal can already manage their third-party application access through My Account > 3rd Party Applications. After this release, practices that do not use the Ontada Health patient portal can offer their patient’s that same capability.
To invite a patient to this experience:
- Open the patient’s record in iKnowMed and navigate to Demographics.
- Locate the “3rd Party application access” field and set it “Yes”.

- The patient will receive an email invitation that explicitly states they are registering only for third-party application access, not the full patient portal.

Once they register, these patients will not see the full Ontada Health Patient Portal experience. They won’t have access to health records, messaging, appointments, or other portal functionality. Instead, they’ll see the My Account experience, where they can manage their Account Settings, Caregivers, Activity Log, and 3rd Party Applications. Everything outside of My Account remains unavailable to them.

Note: The Patient Portal Status field on the patient’s iKnowMed banner will not change when this account is created. This keeps the banner accurate for identifying which patients are on the full patient portal versus this limited experience.
Why this matters
Practices that use their own patient portal still need a way to give patients control over which third-party apps can access their health information. This update extends that capability to those patients without requiring them to adopt the full Ontada Health patient portal, and without impacting practice records on portal enrollment status.
